Recently acknowledged as a pseudo sub-genre of drama, “whistleblower” movies have become the norm in Hollywood. The skeleton for a good story is there, as this genre of movies usually involves an altruistic average citizen taking on a corrupt, despicable corporation. According to Variety, Monica Belluci, David Strathairn, Vanessa Redgrave, and Rachel Weisz will be starring in a whistleblower movie aptly called “The Whistleblower.”
This film, a Canadian-German co-production directed by Larysa Kondracki, is based on the true story of policewoman Kathryn Bolkovac (played by Weisz) who risks her well-being to unveil an international contractor scandal.
In the late 1990’s, Boklovac brough a suit against her Virginia-based employer Dyncorp (one of the government’s biggest contractors.) After blowing the whistle on Dyncorp for sexual miscondut practices which included sex trafficking, Boklovac was promptly fired. The lawsuit soon revealed that Dyncorp employees had not only frequented brothels while abroad in Bosnia, but were involved in the white slavery trade of women and children.
“The Whistleblower” is slated for box office release in 2010.
