During the 2009 fiscal year, which ended September 30, the US Government recovered $2.4 billion in False Claims penalties and settlements. The money recovered FY2009 accounts for about 10% of the total amount recovered since 1986, $24 billion, and has been the second largest recovery year in history. $2 billion of the total amount recovered resulted from qui tam lawsuits, and as a result, the government rewarded plaintiffs more than $255 million as of September 30.
