Federal prosecutors have alleged that drug maker Johnson & Johnson paid millions of dollars in kickbacks to nursing homes to ensure that elderly patients would be put on the schizophrenia drug Risperdal and other drugs. J & J has stated that its activities were lawful. The U.S. Attorney's office is seeking restitution, triple damages, and other penalties under the False Claims Act and other laws.
